Lucifer bowed before God.
"How may I serve you, Lord?"
God replied, "To all the angels I have given a single task. Though each will work according to the unique gifts I have bestowed, they will all lead humanity to me. This is the purpose of the angelic host, to be a light that guides."
"Am I to share in this destiny, Lord," Lucifer replied.
"No. For you, my child, are the one angel who must walk a different path. While others lead humanity toward the light, you must lead them away."
Lucifer looked up. "I don't understand, Lord. Why must humanity be led away from you?"
"So that they may know the fullness of life...so that they may be free."
