Emily

Emily walked into the garden carrying a small jar. She knelt beside a blue iris and placed the jar gently on the soft earth.

“I have brought you something,” she said.

Emily reached into the jar and pulled out a seashell.

“I found this on the beach, yesterday.”

A tear formed in Emily’s eye.

“It reminded me of the first day we met. I was sitting on the beach, alone and sad. In my desperation, I considered giving up.

I would walk out on everything and everyone. I would leave this life and never return.

Then, I looked up and you were there. You were everywhere.

I didn’t return to my life that day. I returned home.”

Emily lay the small shell beside the iris and smiled.

“You saved me.”
