I was driving on a cold, rainy morning when I saw a man walking along the side of the road.

"Maybe I should offer him a ride," I thought.

But that thought was immediately countered by another.

"What about 'stranger danger' - he may be a homicidal maniac!"

But my better nature won out, and I pulled over beside him.

I rolled down the window. "Need a ride?"

He looked warily through the open window. "No, I'm ok."

"Really," I said. "But it's cold and rainy; why wouldn't you want a ride?"

"You know - stranger danger."

And he walked away.
